Benton Park Cafe

September 22, 2010

Hands down best place in St. Louis for delicious and huge breakfast burritos (among many other breakfast options for those not as infatuated with the bfast burrito as we are!).  I couldn’t believe they had an entire burrito/omelet section on their menu.  We got the South of the Border burrito filled with egg, cheese, chorizo sausage, jalapeno, and we added avocados to it which made it creamy and made it less eggy.  The burrito was just spicy enough and so so filling that we were stuffed after splitting one.  It also came with salsa and fiesta sour cream, which we also polished off.  We chose the loaded potatoes as our side (you also have an option of getting fruit) which were anything but bland.  We’ll definitely be back!

As to our favorite nice restaurants, we have a similar list with a few additions. Have you been to Stone Soup Cottage in Cottlesville. If not, you HAVE to go there. It’s very small, a multi-course prefixe menu (but just the “right” size portions), one seating a night. The food is Sidney Street quality, but much more quiet and romantic. I would also put Atlas on the list. And since we live in Chesterfield, I have to mention Annie Gunns, even though I think their portions are obscenely large, and the wine list is as long as War and Peace.

Have you tried Farm Haus on Ivanhoe? We appreciated the all fresh/local ingredients concept and fun cocktails. As far as more casual places, we still have not been to either Pappys or the Scottish Arms. I can’t believe I forgot to mention Terrene, just up the street from there on Sarah. We go there before every Union Avenue Opera and share a bunch of appetizers. We think Terrene has the best frites in the city, and their beet salad is a winner with housemade ricotta. We also love Mai Lee for Vietnamese. I’m so jealous that my husband is taking clients to Pi for lunch next week I think. And Local Harvest, the only place in town my husband eats vegetarian!

Please excuse the long reply. I could go on and on. We love food. Cooking and going out.

LOVE Benton Park! It is for sure one of my favorite places in STL! May I recommend the Hoofer omelt and the McGrittl This as well…. They. Are. Awesome. Oh, and the Benton Park Iced Mocha is so so sooo good.

I’ve been here a bunch of times but never had anything but their breakfast- it is too hard to resist!- but the lunch/dinner options look great too!
